Working with Loop 9 Marketing, Pixels+Points designed and developed a branding campaign for E-Gen™, Arclin’s sustainable product suite. Within the timeframe of 4 weeks, we designed a complete collateral package, booth displays and Web site for the upcoming GreenBuild 2009 in Phoenix. Centered around the concept of “the ingredients of green”, Pixels+Points developed a cohesive visual identity that focused on E-gen’s trademarked “leaf” as the conceptual entry point, consistent throughout the rest of the materials. At the “root” of it all, is E-Gen’s product suite. Below are samples of the Web site, booth display and print collateral.

Above: Final logo design selected. Same typeface as above, with a more literal representation of Athena Square’s roman columns.

Pixels+Points recently completed the logo design print collateral for Privé Salon & Spa at Silo Point. The salon menus and business cards were developed as matching sets, with the salon-related collateral in orange and the spa-specific pieces all in blue. While the salon’s full name is Privé Salon & Spa at Silo Point, the words “salon” and “spa” were separated to cohesively brand each of the service offerings to match the salon’s interior color scheme, (which happens to be a 2-story loft with the salon on the main level and spa on the mezzanine.)

2008 Archive: Pixels+Points developed advertising design concepts for Radius Travel, a DC-based corporate travel management company with global reach and local expert knowledge. The Baltimore-based design studio created several ad campaigns geared towards specific audiences, for placement in key magazines and travel publications. The three distinct campaigns (below) were driven by Radius’ newly-formed tagline ,”We speak the language of corporate travel.”
Side note: Unfortunately, due to the onset of “mad cow” disease in Europe at the time concept 1 (top left) went to print, it was subsequently pulled from distribution and sadly never saw the light of day.

Pixels+Points is currently developing the rebranding of Craig L. Snyder’s Dentistry practice. The studio designed a new logo, which was developed from Craig’s name, (and middle initial). Coined ” the dentist with a smile”, Craig L. Snyder wanted to rebrand himself and the practice, creating a more solid visual presence in Baltimore City and County. The new look reflects a slight sense of “humor”, both in the logotype and accompanying merchandise and collateral. Pictured below are business cards, with fun “smile quotes” on the back side of each staff member’s card, further reflecting the humorous tone. Ultimately, the effect of the new branding should be a positive one, with each patient either arriving or leaving with a smile.

The NFL team Detroit Lions just unveiled their new logo. Last year’s lowly 0-16 team holds the number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft which is an opportune time to attempt to erase the memory of an embarrassing season.
The new logo is a slight redesign of the original silhouette but now reveals an eye, teeth, paws and is more fierce, with a more aggressive posture. The typeface “Lions” has also been redesigned in a customized italic lettering with a similar brush stroke motif in the lion’s mane.
Did a bad logo = a bad team? Good design has the power to not just improve a company’s image, but also change perception and inspire. Perhaps the team’s new visual image will translate into wins for the team. Overall, it’s a subtle yet effective and much needed redesign.

The Pixels+Points team spent the day at The Baltimore Orioles Opening Day game vs. The NY Yankees. On a “design-related” note this year, is the added word ”Baltimore” to the team’s road jerseys, replacing the nickname of the club that has been displayed on the away uniforms since 1973. Typeset in the same script as the famed “Orioles” logotype, the new jerseys are a wonderful addition to Orioles’ brand.

Below: As the rain cleared, fans began to “pour” in, or “trickle” in, depending on your pun of choice. Our client, Hilton (far left), now fills the Baltimore skyline over left-field.

While on a recent business trip to Nashville, coined “the Music City” (and sporting a pretty well-designed logo of its own), I stopped by the renowned poster print shop, Hatch Show Print. Located in downtown Nashville, Hatch Show Print is the oldest American working poster print shop. All of their posters are letterpress and amazing to view in person. Pictures below (unfortunately, quality may vary given they were taken with my iphone.)

With a retail storefront in the front of the shop and a working staff in the back, (all actively working during my visit), Hatch produces restrikes of classic designs but also continues to create new posters for current artist such as Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones. Definitely a must-see for any graphic designer travelling through the Music City. (P.S. Jim Sherraden of Hatch will be visiting Baltimore April 17th. College of Notre Dame, 6:30 reception, 7:00 presentation. Details)

Pictured above right are recent posters designed for CNN’s Presidential coverage. Unfortunately, they were NOT for sale.

The official logo for the city of Nashville, ( typeset in what I think is a customized treatment of the typeface “Bullet”) designed by Blake Allen Design. The logo definitely captures the city’s vibe. It’s especially strong when used “knocked-out” of black.
